They say all is fair in love. When two people feel that spark between them, the light just shines towards them and nothing else in the world would matter.
Karine de Souza is living proof of this mantra. At the young age of three, she was already diagnosed with Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a rare skin condition where every time her skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays, she is at risk of skin cancer because she is deficient in the DNA system that repairs damage to her skin.
In a feature video entitled “Born Different” by the Youtube channel, Truly, Karine who was from Fortaleza, Brazil says, “I am the target of a lot of glances, a lot of people staring at me, some of them distance themselves.”
But, despite this, she still prefers to smile instead of crying and wants others to share her upbeat attitude to life. Back in 2017, she met her now-husband, Edmilson through social media.
He says he fell in love with her story and her strength as a person. Since they started dating, they posted photos of themselves on social media which led to people questioning the legitimacy of their relationship.
There were people who called Karine a monster, deformed, a zombie. Others suggested she was Edmilson’s ‘sugar mommy’ and that she must be rich. The two eventually proved these haters wrong as they decided to tie the knot shortly after their dating stage.
Now, they are happily married to each other for three years already and people are also starting to support their relationship on social media. They are often commended for being examples of true love.
As Edmilson describes it, “I would be with her no matter what, and there are all the nights for us to go out, the cloudy days and the rainy days.”
Indeed, love wins against all odds, and the kind of love that endures the obstacles around them is surely for a lifetime.
