There are many things that may crash the roof of random houses on a daily basis but surely, a meteorite isn’t one of them. Well, that may be possible in fantasy movies or TV shows but no one would have thought that it can actually happen in real life.
Until it happened to this Indonesian man who works as a coffin maker. The 33-year-old guy named Josua Hutagalung was peacefully working on a coffin just near his house when an astonishing sound disturbed him. It turned out that it was a meteorite that crashed through the veranda at the edge of his living room in Kolang, North Sumatra.
The meteorite weighing 2.1 kilograms left a huge hole on the roof of Hutagalung’s home and because of the impact of the fall, the stone was buried 15cm deep in the soil near the house. When he managed to dig out the rock, he said that it was still warm and partially broken when he tried to touch it.
Little did Hutagalung know that he had just discovered a gem right in his backyard. Meteorites are priced per gram with the cheapest pure-rock varieties fetching $0.50 to $5.00 per gram., and those with rare extra-terrestrial metals selling for up to $1,000 per gram.
According to Daily Mail, the meteor that barged in Hutagalung’s home is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old and is classified as CM1/2 carbonaceous Chondrite, an extremely rare variety – worth around $1.85million, or $857 per gram.
This made Hutagalung an instant millionaire just by discovering a huge rock in his own backyard! Who would have thought that a thing that he considered the one who broke his home, literally will be the exact same thing that will change his life, forever?
Truly amazing how just one moment can change the life of a person. This just proves that nothing is really impossible in this life. While some may be lucky to stumble upon a lump of treasure in just a blink, this is not the same for everyone. However, with perseverance and dedication, surely, a bright future awaits.
