Sculpture in Spain ends up with a distorted face after attempt to “restore” it

Sculptures are often considered some sort of treasure of a certain place. These figures of human beings or animals are often made in honor of a certain person or being for their invaluable contribution to the said place, may it be for their freedom, pride, and many other possible reasons.

These sculptures are even more valued by historians because they serve as a reminder of a history that needs to be told to future generations so that they will not be forgotten.

Many are now saddened when photos of this supposed restoration to a statue in Spain started to circulate online. The attempted repair of a statue we are talking about is this one which is on the façade of a historic building in the Spanish city of Palencia as reported by the Spanish news site, as.com.

In the before and after photos of the said sculpture, it can be seen that there is a huge difference as to the two – especially in the facial features of the said sculpture.

The one on the left is the before photo which shows a smiling icon while the right side is the restored version which shows a distorted face. The eyes in nowhere near the center of the face, the lips no longer form a smile but a pouting one.

Via a Facebook post, local painter Antonio Guzman Capel expressed his disappointment with the restoration work saying that the new sculpture looks like a cartoon character, and whoever is the person that did it probably already went away with the money that he received.

Meanwhile, it was still unclear as to who was in charge of this restoration project and who was the person who did the job. For sure, they will have a lot of explaining to do.
