Selena Gomez shows off her kidney-transplant scar

Selena Gomez’s life is no longer a secret to many people as she has spent most of her years under the spotlight. From her younger years to her being a full-grown woman, we have witnessed her successes and at the same time, her struggles.

One of the biggest challenges she has faced in her life is her battle with lupus. Lupus is a chronic disease that can affect any part of the body — typically the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys, according to the Lupus Foundation of America.

As an effect of the disease, back in 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant operation. She had received a kidney transplant from her close friend and fellow actress Francia Raisa.

Now, Selena’s struggle with her health is not only her motivation to continue living life to the fullest, she is also using her influence to empower women all over the world to never be afraid of showing their scars because that is what makes them human.

In an Instagram post where she is seen wearing a powder blue bikini, Gomez shares that at first, she had a hard time showing anyone her scar. She says she often wore things to cover it up as she did not want it to be seen in photos.

“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through…and I’m proud of that,” the singer and actress said in the post.

She ended the caption to the said post with one short yet meaningful message to all the women out there who are struggling to acknowledge self-love, “all bodies are beautiful.”
