The sky is always a pleasant sight to look at especially when various colors are seen during the sunrise and the sunset every single day. We may have also noticed that it seems that the sun’s position is changing as time goes by.
This is explained by the complete revolution of the Earth around the sun for 365 days which also equates to one year. With this, a netizen named Ernesto Murguía perfectly captured the breathtaking sight of the sun with its “change” in position when viewed on Earth every month of the year.
According to Ernesto, the 12 photos he took were taken at the same location, same camera position, and same time at different months of the year. he even labeled each of the photos as to the month they were taken.
The photo series started off in December, in the photo, the sun is seen in the rightmost part of the photo. During the December Solstice, the North Pole is tilted furthest away from the Sun and this occurs when the Sun reaches its most southerly declination of -23.4 degrees. The December solstice is also referred to as the “winter solstice.”
As the months went on, the sun’s position was seen “moving” in a counter-clockwise direction.
In March, it seemed that the sun was in the “center” of the photos taken by Ernesto. This is further explained as March is the month where Equinox occurs. During the Equinox, everybody on Earth gets to experience a day and night of equal lengths – 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of nighttime.
In fact, the name equinox is derived from the Latin words aequus, meaning equal, and nox, meaning night.
Then, when June comes, another solstice is occurring and this time, its called “summer solstice.” During the summer solstice, the longest day (most daylight hours) of the year for people living in the northern hemisphere occurs. It is also the day that the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky.
In September, the photo shows that it was as if the sun has come back to its position back in March which was why during this time, another equinox is said to be occurring.
The galaxy and this world we live in may seem like some sort of magic at times but this is what makes this place special and fit for human beings to survive.
