Marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman who pledges to spend the rest of their lives with one another and at the same time establish a family of their own. This is why there are many people who try to “save” their purity for the person they will marry in the future.
However, a Ugandan imam had been “duped” into thinking that the person he married is a lady who maintains her purity only for him.
According to Vanguard, a man named Sheikh Mohammed Mutumba from Kyampisi Masjid Noor mosque in Kayunga District tied the knot with his ‘wife’ Ms. Swabullah Nabukeera two weeks ago after they met in the same mosque.
Throughout their relationship, the couple did not have any sexual intercourse and they also spent two weeks of their marriage, without enjoying conjugal rights as the “bride” claimed she was in her menstruation period.
Mr. Mutumba said after his wife claimed to be in her menstruation, he became patient and waited for it to just pass by.
The newly-wed couple stays in a two-room house which Mr. Mutumba rents. Furthermore, the wall that separates the two rental rooms did not reach the iron sheets. So, when a neighbor claimed that Nebukeera had jumped over the wall and stole their television set and clothes, investigations began.
The neighbor reported the case at Kayunga Police Station before detectives were dispatched to arrest Ms. Nabukeera. It was during this time that Nebukeera’s disguise was finally blown.
“It was when he was been searched by a female officer that the suspect had stacked clothes in the bra to hoodwink that they were breasts. On further search, we discovered that the suspect had male genitals,” said Mugera.
During the police interrogation, Nabukeera revealed that his real name is Richard Tumushabe and that he duped Mutumba so that he can get his money. He was later charged with impersonation, theft and obtaining goods by false pretense.
Additionally, an alleged accomplice to the crime, Nuuru Nabukeera, Tumushabe’s alleged aunt, was also arrested and admitted that Mutumba had paid dowry including two goats, two bags of sugar, a carton of salt and a Koran.
However, she claimed that she did not know her ‘niece’ was male as she got to know him when he was already an adult.
It sure is unfortunate for Mutumba that he put his trust in people who only ended up betraying him. We hope that he can somehow, someday find the one that deserves the kind of love he is willing to give.
