In movies, snakes are often portrayed as these hideous creatures that aim to take the lives of many people by swallowing them alive. However, in reality, snakes are not as interested in people than they are with their fellow snakes.
In Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, residents in Barangay Tacul were alarmed after witnessing the fight between two huge snakes one fine Wednesday morning in November 2019.
Facebook user Renato Daligdig captured the incident on his mobile phone and posted it on his wall. His post went viral, with 308 engagements, 371 comments, and more than 2,200 shares as of this article’s writing time.
According to Sun Star, one of the snakes, the “Banakon” or King Cobra, measured 11 feet or 3.35 meters in length, while the python was 8 feet or 2.44 meters, both significantly larger than any other snakes in the Philippines.
Junjun, a farmer, was the first person to witness the bloody battle between the two creatures. He said that the two snakes were fighting at his farm when the king cobra saw him.
He believes the king cobra wanted to bite him but it was too late since it was already ingesting the big python. At this time, half of the python’s body was already consumed by the king cobra. With this, Junjun immediately hacked the head and the body of the king cobra, resulting in its death.
In August 2019, a farmer named Rico Cabañero Canoy, 27, and a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Bolton, Malalag, Davao Del Sur was found lifeless with multiple bites from King Cobra.
