Back in the old days, big fishes are easily caught in rivers. However, in the current times, it was as if their existence became extinct as the then clean and ideal habitat rivers no longer exist. But, a glimmer of hope can still be seen after this unusual catch in the Pasig River!
As one might already have an idea, the government recently implemented a cleanup drive in the said river in order to bring back its beauty that was left unseen by the current generation and also the safety habitat that it provides for fishes.
Recently, fishermen reportedly caught a huge catfish or Hito from the Pasig River, the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) has said.
In a report by GMA News, PRRC executive director Jose Antonio Goitia received photos of the fish that was said to weigh more than 10 kilograms. A single hito usually weighs less than a kilo. The same goes for large tilapia that have reportedly been caught from the waterway and its esteros.
According to the PRRC, the catch would serve as their “inspiration to be more active in protecting the Pasig River.”
“Our joint efforts will definitely result in making the Pasig River habitable for more species of fish,” their post said.
Indeed, fishes and all other animals on this planet naturally reproduce when they are comfortable with the habitat they are in. So, it is safe to say that maintaining the cleanliness of all bodies of water around us will surely give us favorable results in the future.
After all, coexistence is the key to making this world a better place to live.
