Pageants have always been the subject of talks of people with varied opinions from all over the world. After all, beauty isn’t something that can be felt or touched but it’s something that must be appreciated.
In the recently concluded Miss Intercontinental, it wasn’t the crowned queen who became a trending topic online but one of the contestants who seemingly resembled the outfits and looks of Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray.
We are talking about Vietnam’s bet, Ngân Anh Lê Âu who ended up as a runner up of the said pageant. Photos of Ngân circulated online with people comparing her evening-gown look, as well as her walk, to those of Gray’s in the Miss Universe 2018 competition. Noting the similarities, some fans accused Ngân of deliberately replicating the Filipino beauty queen’s winning performance.
In an article by ABS-CBN, hawk-eyed followers also brought up the outfits Ngân wore in pre-pageant events, saying a few of them were also similar in style to Gray’s own wardrobe leading up to her Miss Universe coronation.
Because of this trending issue, Miss Ngân aired out her side through a Facebook post. Ngân first thanked those who were instrumental in her top-5 finish in the Miss Intercontinental pageant, which was held over the weekend at the Mall of Asia Arena.
She wrote: “First of all I want to say thank you for Miss Intercontinental Organization to give us memorable gathering in a beautiful Philippines for this biggest celebration in the pageant history. Thank you for teaching us how to be responsible, disciplined and focused to overcome our comfort zones to pursue our dreams.
“For my fellow contestants, thank you for giving me the opportunities to know you and become good sisters. I will never forget the way you celebrated my birthday together. I love you all. To have this achievement, this is not only my effort and hard work but also thanks to the great support from my family, my team, my fans and my beloved ones. Thank you so much for always be back behind me.”
“Last but not least, for my bashers, thank you for your negativities to make me become positive-minded person. Thank you for your hurtful words to make me stronger and be a reason for me to pursue my advocacy against cyber-bullying on the world stage,” she said.
Meanwhile, Gray and her team has not yet issued their side on this issue.
