Take a look at some of the world’s most luxurious prison cells and detention centers

For most people, a prison is a dreaded place not just because it is a place for criminals but also because most prisons are very crowded and is generally considered not ideal to stay in.

However, that is not applicable to all prisons that exist in the world. In fact, some may even be more comfortable than even our own homes. Just like these few luxurious prisons that are hard to believe but truly exists.

HMP Addiewell

A prison located in Scotland. It opened in 2008 and houses all offender types with the exception of females and convicted young offenders. The facade of HMP can fool anyone into thinking that it is an office building.

Within its walls are modernized and state-of-the-art architecture. Its cells are organized in such a way that it even looks like hospital rooms.

Bastoy Prison

This Prison is located on an island in southern Norway. There are no fences or armed guards; inmates hold the keys to locks and have access to beaches, horses and a sauna.

Bastoy is now in its quest to be named as the “World’s first ecological Prison”.

Leoben Justice Center

The Leoben Justice Center is located in Austria. The whole facility does not have concrete or steel walls, instead, the cells look like a vacation destination. Each room is exclusive for just one inmate plus it also has its own comfort room, kitchenette and even a balcony with a spectacular view.

The windows are also left unbarred which gives the overall feeling that one is just having a vacation instead of serving a sentence for a crime.

San Antonio Prison

The famed San Antonion Prison is located in Venezuela. This prison facility is famous for its tagline “Where Prisoners can do anything, except leave.” On the outside, the San Antonio prison on Margarita Island looks like any other Venezuelan penitentiary. Soldiers in green fatigues stand at its gates. Sharpshooters squint from watchtowers. Guards cast menacing glances at visitors before searching them at the entrance.

But once in the inside, Bikini-clad female visitors frolic under the Caribbean sun in an outdoor pool. Marijuana smoke flavors the air. Reggaetón booms from a club filled with grinding couples. Paintings of the Playboy logo adorn the pool hall. Inmates and their guests jostle to place bets at the prison’s raucous cockfighting arena.
